Our United Church Women…

Strathearn has a very active group. The ladies have begun their new Season with their monthly fellowship meetings. If you are interested in joining one of the Units please contact our Membership Coordinator, Louise (434-5063). We have three Units which meet at various times that may fit your schedule. Some of the activities listed below are sponsored by our United Church Women. Inquire about this group when you visit our church.

Birthday Luncheons

Strathearn ladies celebrate. Birthday luncheons are held at Grace United Church (6215-104 Avenue) on the third Friday of the month excluding December and the summer months of June, July and August. If you are not on a regular phoning list, but wish to attend, please call Valerie at 465-6185.

Men's Breakfast

The first Saturday of the month at 9 a.m. at Albert's Restaurant in Bonnie Doon shopping mall. October 6, 2007 was the first one this fall.

Drumming Group:

We learn...some traditional African drumming and reflect on our faith at the same time. If you are interested, please talk to Jess ASAP via person, telephone (964-2256), or email (jess_cobb@shaw.ca). (We will find you a drum.)

Rummage Sale

Come and look for a bargain! - April 26, 2008

...Hardware, garden tools, etc.
...Small articles of furniture

No tires, large appliances, Christmas items, magazines, Readers' Digest or National Geographic, baby cribs, playpens, car seats, beds or hide-a-way beds.

Drop-Offs. Bring all donations to the Church Hall on Monday, April 21 to Wednesday, April 23 from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. and on Thursday, April 24 from 9 a.m. to noon. Please, no deliveries on Friday. The earlier in the week the better.

Volunteers. We need you !! Come when you can at the above delivery times. There are two shifts on Saturday: 9:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and 12:15 to 3:30 p.m. Please call Elaine at 469-8547 to volunteer.

(Was held on September 29, 2007 - Noon lunch followed by a fashion show - sponsored by UCW)

Pie Sales - Annual Pie Sale - Watch for in October 2008.

  • Rhubarb is needed! - Please save your "Red Rhubarb" to donate in October - Donations of clean cut and frozen rhubarb are greatly appreciated!
  • Good buys in flour, sugar, pie plates, shortening, pizza boxes, and cherry and apple pie filling are also needed.

(In October 2007, approximately 60 volunteers worked busily to assemble 553 pies. Fifty-six pies were donated to Bissell Centre and 47 pies were donated to the Youth Emergency Centre.)

The word is out. "Good pies for a good price."

Christmas Craft Fair, Bake Sale & Luncheon - Watch for in November 2008. (Was held on November 17 in 2007.)

Are you a "crafter"or do you know of a crafter who would be interested in renting an 8-foot table or space? If you are, interested or know someone who might be interested please contact Lila (469-3102). Tables are limited...

Can you help? We need: sewing, knitting, crocheting, handicrafts, home baking, gently used toys, books and puzzles for children and paperback books and puzzles for adults. For the lunch we need borscht, beef vegetable and turkey vegetable soup. If anyone wishes to make any of these please call Lila. For more information call Lila @ 469-3102.

Butterdome

For a number of years Strathearn has worked the coat check at the annual Christmas Craft Sale.at the Butterdome. Again, 2007 was not only successful but also a lot of fun. Please volunteer in 2008.

Poinsettias

Watch for the sale of poinsettias in 2008. The UCW offers poinsettias to be picked up at the craft sale. The cost in 2007 was $15 and prepayment appreciated.

The University of Alberta Mixed Chorus & Faculty of Education Handbell Ringers

Watch for in December 2008. (Entertained us on December 2, 2007).

The UCW sells the United Church Calendar.

Souper Lunch

Watch for in December 2008.

Curling …

A funspiel hosted by Ottewll United was held on January 13, 2008. Watch for the next funspiel in January 2009.

Annual Congregational Meeting

Watch for in February 2009. (In 2008 the Annual Congregational Meeting was held on February 10 at 11:30 a.m. - 67 people attended).

Slow Pitch

Come out and play ball. Strathearn & St. Paul's United have a joint team.
