Sharing Information
Did you know...that most people state the reason they
began attending a specific church was - 'because someone invited us to'.
We have a wonderful church community - share it with someone - invite
a friend, neighbour or family member to join us next Sunday at church.
Official Board Minutes...
Copies of the monthly Official Board minutes and Financial statements
are available, outside of the Church Office, in the Official Board Files
under "extra copies". People are welcome to view the minutes
and statements.
A Reminder
Please contact the Church Office to "book" a room for your
meeting (466-5822).
"The Quiet Room"
Jon admires the new renovations.
We affectionately call this the "Quiet Room". Through the generosity
and interest of a Church member, the "Quiet Room" is now a beautiful
and peaceful place where family members before a funeral can meet or the
bride and her attendants gather before her wedding. Occasionally, individuals
need the peace and quiet of a space such as this. When you are nearby,
drop into the "Quiet Room" and take a look.
We Need You!
Men and women are needed as Sunday School substitute teachers, Sunday
School Superintendent and C.D. Committee members. Please contact Barb
(465-2047 or barbsinn@hotmail.com ) for more information or to share your
talents.
Church Directory Update
Are you moving?
Has your phone number changed?
Would you like your E-Mail Address included in the Directory?
Are there additions or deletions of which we should be aware?
Please contact the Church Office: 466-5822.
Are you on PAR yet?
Pre-Authorized Remittance (PAR)
Strathearn members now have the opportunity to financially support our
church through regular monthly withdrawals from our bank account.
PAR pamphlets are available in the Narthex or in St. Stephen's Chapel
with the Sunday Bulletins. To date we have 27 families on PAR, if you
would like to join these families by having the convenience of having
your monthly offering withdrawn directly from your chequing account. Just
fill out a PAR Registration Form, with a VOID Cheque, put it in an envelope
marked ATTENTION: Veronica / PAR. Place it in the Offering Plate on a
Sunday or return it by mail to the Church Office.
PAR authorization forms need to be into the Church Office by the beginning
of the month to start having the withdrawals begin on the 20th of the
following month.
Please know your PAR donations do not have to be large to be on PAR.
If you even donate $15/month that would give you a charitable receipt
of $180 for a full year !
Our Church Secretary, is our contact person: 466-5822
During Summer Months
Please remember to financially support the work of our church over the
summer months.
- submit post-dated cheques to the Church Office
- make prepayments
- sign up for pre-authorized remittance (PAR)
- make regular donations.
With our regular financial support, our church and its work will continue
to operate smoothly.
Special Services on Video
We have many copies of videos taken during the years, and these are kept
in a "Video Library" located in the Middle Office (next to Wally's
Office). These for available to borrow, we do ask that you please sign
them out at the time you borrow them. Many do not have back-ups, so we
do not want to loose them.
Videos include seasonal Worship Services, plays or musicals, the University
of Alberta Mixed Chorus & Faculty of Education Handbells, etc. If
you want to purchase a copy of a special Worship Service, or of the Mixed
Chorus copies are available for $10.00.
You or maybe a friend may be unable to attend Services, or you might
miss a Service, these tapes are available for your use. Not all services
are taped, so if you need a special service taped, please let Wally know
ahead of time.
If you do not have a VCR, we have one that you are able to borrow. For
more information contact Wally (466-5352).
Passenger/Loading Zone in Front of Walker Hall Entrance
Did you know that some people on Sunday mornings have received $40 parking
tickets for using the 5-minute loading zone? The zone apparently extends
from the sign on the lamppost to the alleyway. Please note that a new
sign has been installed that will make this zone effective everyday EXCEPT
SUNDAY. Therefore it would be courteous to leave one car length for passenger
drop off on Sunday mornings. You will not receive a ticket for parking
on that section street on Sundays.
Our United Church Women
The ladies have monthly fellowship meetings. If you are interested in
joining one of the Units please contact our Membership Coordinator, Louise
(434-5063). We have three Units which meet at various times that may fit
your schedule.
Our Many Outreach Missions are supported by your involvement.
Funeral Receptions
Phyllis takes care of receptions following Funeral Services held at Strathearn,
she is doing a fabulous job with the assistance of our ladies. We are
asking for assistance from the congregation from both men and women. Our
womanpower is getting less powerful, and we would appreciate
a call from you to let Phyllis know you are available to help, you can
reach Phyllis at 466-2930.

| Strathearn United Church Inward Journey (Previous) |
Each time we hold a hand
Each time we phone a friend
Each time we talk with God...
That's our Inward Journey.
Each time we care for those who struggle
Each time we put ourselves in their shoes
Each time we do not judge...
That's our Inward Journey.
Each time we choose to be a voice of hope and joy
Each time we look for God in ourselves and others
Each time we say thank you or share a smile...
That's our Inward Journey.
Each time we find those at home who need us
Each time we find those in our neighbourhood who want
Each time we find those in our church who call for us...
That's our Inward Journey.
Each time we choose to be fair
Each time we choose not to cheat
Each time we ask for forgiveness...
That's our Inward Journey.
Each time we thank God
That's our Inward Journey.
We have no yesterdays, time took them away.
Tomorrow may not be, but we have today.
Let our inward journey begin today!
And let God be with us night and day.

Quotes
Leadership Beatitudes
Blessed is the leader, who knows where she is going,
Why she is going, and how to get there,
Blessed is the leader, who knows no discouragement,
Presents no alibi.
Blessed is the leader who leads for the good of the most concerned
And not for the personal gratification of her own ideas.
Blessed is the leader, who has her head in the clouds,
But her feet on the ground.
Blessed is the leader who considers leadership and opportunity for service.
Slow Dance
Have you ever watched kids on a merry-go-round?
Or, listened to rain slapping on the ground?
Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight?
Or gazed at the sun in the fading light?
You better slow down.
Don't dance so fast.
Time is short.
The music won't last.
Do you run through each day on the fly?
When you ask "How are you", do you hear the reply?
When the day is done
Do you lie in bed with the next hundred chores
Running through your head?
You better slow down.
Don't dance so fast.
Time is short.
The music won't last.
Ever told your child, we'll do it tomorrow?
And in your haste not see her sorrow.
Ever lost touch, let a good friendship die?
Cause you never had time to call and say "Hi".
You better slow down.
Don't dance so fast.
Time is short.
The music won't last.
When you run so fast to get somewhere,
You miss half the fun of getting there.
When you worry and harry through your day,
It's like an unopened gift
Thrown away.
Life is not a race.
Do take it slower.
Hear the music.
Before the song is over.
- David Weatherford
An Easter Lily Poem
Easter morn with lilies fair
Fills the church with perfumes rare,
As their clouds of incense rise,
Sweetest offerings to the skies.
Stately lilies pure and white
Flooding darkness with their light,
Bloom and sorrow drifts away,
On this holy hallow'd day.
Easter Lilies bending low
in the golden afterglow,
Bear a message from the sod
To the heavenly towers of God.
- Louise Lewin Matthews
Then shall all shackles fall, the stormy clangour
of wild war music oer the earth shall cease;
love shall tread out the bale fire of anger,
and in its ashes plant the tree of peace.
- John Greenleaf Whittier
Prayer should be the key of the day
and the lock of the night.
- Thomas Fuller
The greatest use of life
is to spend it on something that will outlast it.
- William James
Kindness in words creates confidence,
Kindness in thinking creates profoundness,
Kindness in giving creates love.
- Lao-Tse
