CareNotes
The Pastoral Care Committee through the Official Board is pleased to
make availabe CareNotes in the Narthex. These CareNotes
cover a variety of life circumstances that people encounter in living,
from handling stress, coping with grief, etc. Please take time to review
these CareNotes. You may want to take one home and then return
it. Or you may know of a friend or a family member who may benefit from
a CareNote.
Memorial Garden
On September 24, 1995, the Strathearn United Church Memorial Garden (the
area between the Sanctuary Wing and the Office Wing) was dedicated. This
gave us an appropriate area for families, who so desire, to intern the
cremains of loved ones.
Bissell Needs
When you are grocery shopping, remember to buy one for Bissell. There
is always a need for food for the Bissell Food bank -- items such as...

WIN House
Through the initiative of the Mission and Outreach Committee, our congregation
supports the work done at WIN House.
Following is a list of some items needed for everyday operation of WIN
House programs.

Strathearn continues to support the Mission and
Service Fund. This fund, in turn supports the following
ministries in Alberta and Northwest Conference:
Congregational support for rural ministry across Alberta, resource based
town ministry, community outreach ministry (Bissell Centre, Inner City
Pastoral Ministry-Edmonton), youth ministry, campus ministry at the University
of Alberta, University of Calgary and University of Lethbridge.
Lenten Project - Outward Journey Project
Strathearn's Lenten Project for 2008 was a donation to
the Youth Emergency Shelter's Start House and Bissell's Day Care Centre--a
goal of $2000. Start House will purchase a new area carpet and Bissell
Centre will purchase new storage units and teacher tables for the day
care. (Thanks to congregational support this goal was surpasssed). The
Mission and Outreach Committee thank you for your generous support of
the mission projects.
Strathearn's Outward Journey Project for 2007
was a donation to the Family Literacy Centre--a goal was set of $1,000--thanks
to congregational support this goal was surpasssed. Our church community
again reaches out to help the wider community and demonstrates our local
commitment to mission.
Coats for Kids - In the fall of 2006 & 2007 the Mission and
Outreach Committee promoted the gathering of gently used coats so that
Page the Cleaners could clean them and donate them to needy families.
Thanksgiving Food Display - On October 7, 2007 the church was
decorated, for Thanksgiving, with donations of fresh food (potatoes, carrots,
cabbage, etc.) dry and canned foods. Following the Thanksgiving service,
all donations were given to the Bissell Centre.
Mitten Tree - During the Advent season a small forest appeared
in the Narthex. It was ONE tree that opened its branches and received
warm winter mittens, scarves and hats. These were distributed to local
mission projects. (Bissell, Kindred House, RCMP Project Kare, Yess, etc.)
No Room at the Inn - During the Christmas season (2007) a special
offering was taken for the Rotary Centre for New Canadians.
BISSELL Lunch - Was held on January 13, 2008. Strathearn donated
50 loaves of sandwiches along with fruits, vegetables and desserts. Thank
you for your support of this worthwhile project. Mission & Outreach
Committee.
"Enough For All" was our Outward Journey
project for 2006. Collection for Mission and Outreach Service for World
Development and Relief.
