I am the Executive Director of a senior citizen charitable organization for the past 35 years, a 19 handicap golfer, have restored a 1947 Dodge truck, besides playing with over one hundred and thirty old gas engines. My engines include a Novo 2 ½ hp, a Massey Harris 1 ½ hp Type 2 , a Wisconsin 8 hp, a McCulloch chainsaw, a number of International LA's and a LB's 1 ½ to 2 ½ hp , three 1 ½ hp International "M's", four Maytag 92 singles, five Maytag 72 Twins, a 1 hp and two ½ hp upright Maytag Multimotors, a Reo, four Lausons, a number of Clintons and Iron Horse engines, three McLeod engines, a John Deere 1 ½ hp, an OMC 2-stroke, four 2 ½ hp Fairbanks Morse "D" shoebox Z’s, a 2 hp and a 3 hp Massey Harris (Cushman style), some Briggs and Strattons, a Kohler 120 volt GenSet, two headless Fairbanks-Morse's, two Cushman's, and other brands, and a Scott-Atwater 3.3 hp "kicker" outboard. Many are still siezed or not running but about half of my toys do or have run recently. Some are water hopper cooled and many are air cooled.
Now at 58 years old I can proudly say that I have built nail by nail, along with Marja, my wife of over 33 years, our house in Edmonton for our son Nicolas while he grew up and can with difficulty understand and read Dutch. I am currently a member of the of our church, Strathearn United Church, and Secretary of the Board of the "Friends of Deville / St. Margaret's Society", set up to preserve an old historic country church and graveyard where my father is buried .
If you have
need of a "Buzz Box" coil and battery ignition system for your latest
engine treasure, here is an Adobe .pdf file of four pages with details of
how to build two simple systems that work great! It is an extract from the Gas
Engine Magazine and suggestions from participants on the Stationary Engine List.
I have built both; the lawnmower coil system works with a 6 volt battery really
well but the other must have a 12 volt power source to energize the relay. Click
